I try to work with story boards as often as possible, but usually it comes naturally on set. 

If I have the location scouted, model and wardrobe all set I will try to do as much coordination as possible, but most of the time I only have location photos to go by, and wardrobe is usually what ever the model brings, and occasionally I would have stylist, but will never see the wardrobe until the day of the shoot. 

Things run smoother with more coordination, but having things come naturally gives you a creative edge :)
