Hi, I was really dazzled by the photo entitled "The introduction", posted on May, 14th. You did a fantastic job (or / and were lucky shooting at the right time ;-), sometimes both are necessary). Can we get a higher resolution OR would you sell it ? If you have time, I would love reading the story behind this snapshot.
That shot was taken prior to make up. Model was standing outside and I walked out and took a snap shot. Not much of a story behind it :)
Hi Kesler. Beautiful work again, as always. I'm also using a Sony Nex-7 and the kit strap is pretty much crap. So stiff. I rather like the wrist strap you're using as shown in the post below. Which one is that, precisely?
Hi Kesler! Are you happy with the kit lens? Would you recommend getting a different lens - like the 50 f/1.8, 30 f/3.0 macro or 16 f/2.8 wide angle? And of course, love your artistry! Thanks in advance :)
Yes I love the kit lens, all of my NEX work is shot with it. I also have the Zeiss 24mm, which I’m starting to use more now.
Kesler, you have a really great feel for achieving rich, warm, saturated and vintage tones. I am also shooting with an Nex-7, so I'm super curious if you are getting these colors and tones from inside the camera, or do you tend to shoot clean and have some quick defaults you use post-camera. I don't want to copy what you're doing, but simply want to get a better understanding of what the camera is capable of, so specifics would be useful. I appreciate your feedback, and your talent. Thanks...
I’m using LR4 to achieve a lot of the color toning in my work.
Dude!! you should totally start shooting video... I saw an old promo video someone made for 1 of your shoots but i haven't seen a new one for a while. are you interested in collaborating with more video work or doing some of your own?
Not really focusing on video at this time. Maybe its something I will venture into in the near future, but right now I’m focusing on stills :)
First, let me just say your work is excellent and ranks of there along with my favorites like Leder, Bellemere and Purienne. Your tone, shade and detail is superb. On to my question - I know you are currently using the Sony Nex-7. I'm wondering if you ever use it for video. I like using stills from video because you can get some really spontaneous shots that way. Do you recommend this style of photography, or do you feel it detracts from the image quality? Thanks for your work and input...
Actually I never use the video function so I can’t answer your question.
So Charles has this nice long blog post about his thoughts on Fashion Nudes and Censorship /2012/04/fashion-nudity-and-censorship. I was wondering what were your thoughts on Fashion Nudes, how and why you shoot them, how they inspire your other work, and why you think these amazingly beautiful models want to shoot with you.
Yes, I read that post a while back, one of my friends showed it to me; its quite an entertaining read. While I’m not in any position to critique or criticize someone else view on the subject, I personally think the term “Fashion nudes” is Oxymoron. I like to refer to them as edgy photos with nudity LOL. Adding the term “fashion” to nude photos is subjective, and often times considered creepy, because many would find it misleading, or worst a method to get models naked.
Many of the models that I work with find nudity a freedom of expression, a way to create art in a raw form capturing emotion.
